Mabel Dawn Davis'
beautifully conceived and executed cabaret chanteuse whose glamour and
off-the-cuff remarks brings you back to the Golden Age of great cabaret
artists. |
|
I've seen the Kinsey Sicks several times and have become quite biased, they are terrific! Since 1997 they've issued five wonderful CDs that capture their extraordinary talent and humor. Not all the songs are ready for radio, but that's all the more fun. They've just (March 2006) signed a long-term performance deal in Las Vegas, and should be great. Below left, they're shown with Dame Edna (and behind that pic), in a casual moment. Check out my April 2003 show for my interview with them |

From
her site: "Drag superstar Jackie Beat has been entertaining
audiences across the U.S. and in Europe for over ten years with her razor-sharp
comedy and hysterical song parodies. Jackie not only warps hits by Britney
Spears, Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Cher and many others,
but she flawlessly sings her twisted new versions LIVE -- hitting every
last note." Sounds right to me.

Hedda
Lettuce is known as a drag-comedienne, and regularly sells out her
engagements in New York City, and has had numerous TV guest shots. So
far as a vocalist she's only been on compilations, but there are a number
of songs for download at her site.

And,
as a duo, Hedda Lettuce teamed up with Yolanda, and called themselves
The Chixie Dix (photo at left), appearing as such on the "ABBAlicious"
and "Marry Me" various artist compilations. Sure wish they would
release more.

|
Sade
Pendarvis appeared on the "ABBAlicious" and "Marry
Me" compilations, and on the latter is especially noteworthy for
her duet with his other/alter ego, Nicolas Ferrer, on the drag standard
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough." Far right is the "ABBAlicious"
CD cast.

Okay, I admit it, Yolanda is one of my favorites, which had a lot to do with my choosing to end this show with her, and she had several songs I could have chosen that would be worthy. But "Freedom" is one that's just hard to top. Yolanda, 2003 OutMusician of the Year, and The Stonewall Society's 2002 and 2003 Transgendered Favorite Musician...is a singer-songwriter, performance artist, visual artist, radical fairie, drag queen, theater person, storyteller, legal christian minister and tarot card reader. Okay, that's from the bio at her site, but since I met Yolanda (or Roger Mapes) several years my respect for her as an artist, activist and a person has only continued to grow. Also, see my October 2002 QMH show for an interview with her and to hear a live concert. And, you can see two of her videos! Start at this page. |
